Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about it. JPEG compression permanently discarded detail when the file was made; PNG simply stops any further loss. The result looks identical to the JPG — it just will not degrade again when you re-save it.
Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel faithfully instead of approximating them. For photographs that routinely means files several times larger. That is the trade: PNG for editing and for sharp-edged graphics, JPG for photographs you are sending or serving.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
Not automatically. A JPG has no transparency to recover, so the converted PNG is fully opaque. Removing a background is a separate editing job — converting the format cannot do it.
Is there a limit on file size or number of files?
