Frequently asked questions

What mileage should a bike give?

Commuter motorcycles of 100โ€“125cc typically return 55โ€“70 km/l, 150โ€“200cc bikes 40โ€“50, and larger machines 25โ€“35. Scooters generally sit around 40โ€“50. City riding, pillion weight and short trips all pull the figure down.

Why did my bike's mileage suddenly drop?

Usual causes are low tyre pressure, a clogged air filter, a chain that is loose or dry, or a fuel injector or carburettor needing attention. A sudden fall of more than about 15% is worth a service rather than a new riding style.

Does riding style matter much on a bike?

More than on a car, because the engine is small and works harder. Steady throttle at moderate speed, early upshifts and avoiding hard acceleration can change the figure by 20% or more on the same machine.
