How much car can I afford?
Common guidance is to keep the total — EMI plus fuel, insurance and servicing — under 15–20% of take-home pay. Budgeting only the EMI is the standard mistake, because running costs often come to half the EMI again.
What running costs should I expect?
For a mid-size car driven 12,000 km a year: roughly ₹80,000 in fuel, ₹20,000–25,000 insurance and ₹10,000–15,000 servicing — around ₹9,000 a month before any EMI or depreciation.
Should I include depreciation in affordability?
